I’m sorry I haven’t a clue – the new series, a review of sorts

The eagerly awaited new series and the first without dear ol’ Humph was on last night at 6.30pm radio 4. Stephen Fry was the first ‘chair’ (probably a posh leather office chair…) and sounded extremely nervous throughout the show. Hardly surprising, imagine having to ‘follow’ Humphrey Littleton… Instead of the lovely Samatha, we had the rippling Sven (big surprise there), there were a few new games for example ‘just a minim’ where the panellist were given a song and had to sing it without repetition, hesitation or deviation. Stephen as the chairman worked extremely well, although I couldn’t help but think that the writer had written Fry’s script with Humphrey Littleton in mind, and some of the jokes, which would had worked for Humph did not work quite as well for Fry. Mind you after writing 50 or so series for one chairman, adapting to a new format of multiple chairmen is bound to take some time. Overall the show was extremely enjoyable and I am looking forward to the rest of the series.
